Beware of the Koolade

It's official. I've lost my freakin' mind.

I signed up for a full Ironman, IM Louisville to be exact.

And, the best aspects of this decision: it's in late August. In sweltering Louisville, Kentucky. I do so LOVE hot weather races. Not.

How did this happen, you ask? It was a simple case of drinking the Koolade. Or, perhaps it was more like taking a bath in it. It all started when a couple of the Reds decided to sign up for their first full IM before they had even completed their first half. Then, they started whispering in our ears, "Do it with me! C'mon, it will be fun. I need someone to train with..." Like the call of the Pied Piper, I, too fell into step. I could blame it on Hannah, Liz and Casey triple teaming Bea and me, but I had been quizzing Liz about it prior to that night, so I guess that isn't really valid.

There were actually several logical, if not completely rational, reasons I decided to take the plunge in '12.
And, it's official!
1) I want to do a full distance someday. I'm 50 now, so I don't really see myself continuing to train at this level of intensity for very many more years.
2) A really awesome crew would be doing it this year: Casey, Hannah, Julie, Greg, Kim, Dave ...
3) It's the same weekend as Canada, which Ray and Becky are doing, so we would be on the same training schedule.
4) The swim is usually NOT wetsuit legal, which is probably okay since I have not had a successful wetsuit swim yet.
So, I, along with Bea and Jen signed up that night. Took a bath in the Koolade? Well, we will soon be doing a 2.4 mile swim in the Koolade. Woo hoo!
